    Guidelines & Application

    The Mi’gmawei Mawiomi Business Corporation (MMBC) is proud to present a scholarship and bursary program to financially assist students whom are achieving academic success and in-need of financial assistance. The MMBC acknowledges the importance of education for our First Nation members and therefore has developed a program to help students achieve their academic goals. Below are the program awards available this year:
    • Limited 10 Scholarship awards of $2,000 per student
    • Limited 5 Bursary awards of $1,000 per student

    NOTE: The Scholarship and Bursary Program is only available to registered band members from the communities of Gesgapegiag, Gespeg, and Listuguj. Also, the program has changed to a competitive process meaning there will be a limited number of scholarships and bursary awards. This means that the scoring process has changed, as well, so please put your best application forward. Lastly, we’ve changed how the awards will be disbursed if you are selected, see information below.

    Application Deadline:
    • Deadline to submit your application: August 22, 2025 at 12:00pm (Noon) EST.
    • Application must have all supporting documents in one submission. Please do not send multiple files. Only submit when you have everything ready.
    • Submit documents that are clear and easy to read. Please scan your documents into digital format, if possible. Any blurry or unreadable documents may delay or deny your application.
    • Submit your application directly by website form (www.mmcorporation.ca) or send by email (info@mmcorporation.ca).
    • Late or incomplete applications may not be accepted.
     

    Eligibility:

    • The scholarship program is meant for students who are in good academic standing and achieving a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 (B average) or higher and demonstrates a financial need.
    • The bursary program is meant for vocational students and students who demonstrate a financial need.
    • Scholarship and bursary applications are open to all First Nation students that are members from one of the three Mi’gmaq communities: Gesgapegiag, Gespeg, or Listuguj.
    • Eligible applicants that will be considered are: - students that graduated from high school and furthering their education; or - students that will be attending or continuing vocational training; or - students that will be attending or continuing college education; or - students that will be attending or continuing university education.
    • College and University students must be attending an approved educational institution on a full-time basis. Please contact us if you are unsure if your institution is approved.
    • Vocational students may only apply for the bursary program.
    • Each applicant may only apply for one fund: scholarship or bursary.
    • MMBC employees and board/committee members are not eligible for this program.
     

    Award Disbursement

    If you are selected for an award, your award will be divided into (2) payments. Half will be provided shortly after being selected for an award, and the remaining half will be provided before December 31st. To receive the second half of your award, you must provide proof of completion for the previous semester, and proof a registration for the following semester. If your program ends before December 31st, then please notify us so we can modify your award disbursement.
